Sandidge Cemetery

From the Green County Record, Oct. 25, 1895 is this account written by "F. S..H.":

Exie--Sept. 24, 1895.  As it has been many years since the admission of Kentucky into the union of States, perhaps a description of a Bible that was brought years before the state was admitted, and has been in constant use since more than 100 years, would be of some interest to the readers of the Record.

Bob Jones of Exie, is the possessor of this old Bible. It is a very large book with heavy leather backs, It was gotten by John Sandridge while in Albemarle Co. Virginia and was brought to County in the year 1808.  This ancient Bible when brought across the Blue Ridge Mountains was prized above all treasures! And was read by the assembled family at the close of each day, by the glimmering torchlight, as they journeyed toward their Western home.  When a descendant of John Sandridge visits the old home from a distant county or state the old Bible is brought out, its pages reviewed with anxious eyes, especially the old Sandridge record which is taken from 1720.  The record begins with Mrs. Elizabeth Sandridge, Mother of the above John Sandridge, who was born in 1720 and died 1826, whose family consisted of six boys & girls, all of whom married and raised large families of boys & girls who have married in turn to the fourth generation:  consequently the family is very numerous and is scattered--Adair, Cumberland Counties, and in fact the population of many of the Western States have been improved by their citizenship.

The member of this family adorn all the trades and professions.  The men are lawyers, doctors, editors, politicians, merchants, farmers & etc - Not only in Kentucky but in many of the Western States - Not only in Saline County Mo. where as in Kentucky they are a decided force in all the honorable pursuits of men.  The women are unusually accomplished whereever they are found.  This family is particularly noted for its "Old Kentucky hospitality."

In spite of the error stating that Bible was brought to Kentucky before the commonwealth joined the union (Kentucky was admitted to the Union in 1792), this account of the family's move from Virginia is fairly consistent with conclusion that Elizabeth (Graves) Sandidge moved to Kentucky when she was around the age of 80 or older.
