I believe Henry Grinstead (no dates on stone) to be born ca 1778, Richmond, Henry Co. Va. He was a wagon maker and a soldier in the War of 1812 as a member of the Kentucky Volunteers 4 th Reg, Ewings Mounted, Capt James Forbis Co/ Lt. Col Young Ewing. Henry served Sept 18 to Oct 30 1812. I believe he was wounded. Henry married 4 Apr 1804 (afa 13 Jun 1807) in Warren Co KY to Sarah J. “Sally” Ferrill (afa Ferrel) an orphan girl. She was b. 1787 d. 4 Jan 1864. The Cemetery has also been called Green’s Chapel Cemetery. They had nine possibly ten children including (1) Sally H. Grinstead b 1808 m. West Owen, (2) William Grinstead b 23 Aug 1808 d 20 Apr 1863 m. Nancy Brooks ca 1830, (3) James Madison Grinstead b 1813 d 20 Apr 1863 m ca 1830 Nancy Brooks, (4) Lucian Grinstead, (5) Martha S Grinstead b 1818 d 5 Apr 1863, (6) Joseph G Grinstead b ca 1820 d 13 Nov 1852 m 1 st Sarah Ann Duke m 2 Sarah Jane Woodward who later m Andrew Jackson, (7) Elizabeth Grinstead b 15 Jan 1821 d 2 Sept 1902 m David Galloway, (8) Susan Grinstead, (9) Henry Grinstead Jr b 1827 d ? m Nancy W. Connor (or Coner) prob as 2 nd wife, and possibly Frank W. Grinstead b 1825. |
