OLD HUDGINS HOMESTEAD CEMETERY (LOCATED ON THE OLD FRANKLIN PROCTOR HUDGINS HOMESTEAD) Hart County, Kentucky |
LOCATION: At Jonesville, KY on Highway 31E, turn onto Highway 936 going east for four miles. Turn right onto Hwy 1079 and travel one mile. Then turn right at an abandoned house (mail box reads Elizabeth Garmon). Go to the end of the road (approximately one mile) to a brick house on the left. The cemetery is about 50 yards to the right in a wooded area. The farm belongs to Joe and Jan Bealmear. COMMENTS: There are four known Hudgins burial plots in this vicinity, none of which is maintained, and many of the burials are unmarked except by stones. It is believed that the individuals were buried where they lived rather than in a community or church cemetery. This was Hudgins territory, settled by John and Rhoda (Garr) Hudgins of Culpeper, Virginia, shortly after the War of 1812. John had thirteen children, six with Rhoda and another seven with his second wife, Rachel Kimberlin from Washington County, Kentucky. The nearby town of Hudgins, Kentucky, although located in Green County, was founded by the Hart County Hudgins. |
