Luska J. Twyman was born in Hiseville. He was a graduate of Kentucky State University and later a member of their Board of Regents. He was principal of Ralph Bunch School in Glasgow at the time of it's merger with Glasgow High School to achieve integration. Elected in 1968 he was the first, and for 17 years, the only African American Mayor in Kentucky. He was also the first African American to serve on the U.S. Commission of Human Rights. He was the first black Kentuckian to serve on the U.S. Commission of Agriculture. He served in the U.S. Army 1942-1946. The Luska J. Twyman Memorial Park is located in Glasgow, Kentucky. |
