Ronald Ellis Huffman, 75, Tucson, Arizona passed away from surgical complications on January 22, 2010 at the University of Arizona Tucson Medical Center, with his wife Terry by his side. Ron was born August 12, 1934 to James Clarence and Mary Ellen (Ferguson) Huffman of Cave City. He spent his childhood in Cave City, leaving in his mid-teens to move to Akron, Ohio with his mother and step-father Albert Bevars. In 1954 Ron joined the United States Air Force and served eight years. He was with the 310th Fighter-Bomber Squadron of the 58th Fighter-Bomber Wing during the Korean Conflict. He also served in Spain where he crewed for Colonel Chuck Yeager and was privileged to once break the sound barrier in an F-100 with the Colonel. It was during this time, while stationed at George AFB in Victorville, CA that he fell in love with the desert. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Ron returned to California and went to work for United Airlines in the San Francisco area. He worked for United for 25 years retiring to Sun City, AZ, then Honolulu, HI, and eventually to Tucson, AZ, where he had his dream house in the desert. Traveling was a big part of Ronald's life, visiting cities and countries all over the world and making friends wherever he went. He was very active in the 58th Fighter Association. An avid hiker he often explored the desert and mountain trails with family a nd friends. Dancing, entertaining, laughing, and cooking were mainstays of his life. Ron truly never met a stranger; he was the l ife of every party; he was the best of friends; he was an incredible father; and above all the greatest husband. Ron was preceded in death by his father James Clarence Huffman and mother Mary Ellen Ferguson Huffman Bevers. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Terry Huffman of Tucson, AZ; his daughter Laura Lee Wilson-Langman (Don) of Modesto, CA; a brother James T. Huffman (Nina) of Ohio; grandchildren Jennifer K. Rossi (Ron), Matthew J. Wilson, and Jeffrey R. Wilson (Melanie), all of California; four great-grandsons, RJ and Kyle Rossi, Camden Wilson and Bryce Wilson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. No matter where he went, where he lived, and who he met, Ron always let it be known he was a proud Kentuckian and that Cave City was his true home. He will return home to be laid to rest on May 8, 2010 at 11:30 AM in the Huffman Family area of the Cave City Cemetery. The Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, is in charge of the graveside memorial service. There will be no visitation.
